What the H@&# are you Waiting for?

Have you ever heard of Lifestyle Design?  If not, I am sure that you have heard of Leaving the Rat Race.  Well, Lifestyle Design is something that you do once you Leave the Rat Race.

I just read a guest post by Jonny Gibaud of thelifething.com.  The post is called Good Things Come To Those That Don’t Wait. That post inspired this one.

For a long time, I have wanted to strike out away from the rat race and do my own thing.  Over the years, I went from self-employed to working a JOB– to self-employed to working a JOB– to self-employed to working a JOB and on and on.  Now, I am finally self-employed again.

In and out of self-employment for the last 9 years of my life, I realized that self-employment is just a harder form of employment.  Not to mention the fact that I have sorely messed up my job record, and even I would not call me in for an interview.  I couldn’t risk wanting to hire me. (I did not just say that.)  So, with my “non-hire-ability” now Business Ownership is the goal.  I want to hire others to do all of the work for me and even hire someone to watch over them. (I definitely want to hire people better than myself.)

The question of the day is:

What the H@&# are you Waiting for?

Are you waiting for your hair to turn gray, and this weird sort of glow to replace your anti-wisdom for sage ability?  I am here to tell you that it is not going to happen any day soon.

If you need more education, then go get it.  Better yet, go buy it. Any characteristic that you need to get your business running is a college or tech school graduate away.  If you don’t have money to hire them right now, there are other ways to get them interested in a part-time venture with you.  (Be creative!)

We all have reasons…

My reasons were that I had to be “responsible.” After all, I had a baby to take care of.  So, when the business started looking like it wasn’t going to prosper, I needed to just run back to a JOB until I could get my business off the ground, again.

That’s just my reason.  There are many different reasons for running back to jobs or never leaving their job in the first place.  They are mostly covers for laziness. Yes, I said it… laziness….

Instead of finding out what it would take to start their own business, non-profit or part-time hobby.  They speculate that the costs would be far too much or that they don’t have enough talent or education.  They talk themselves down out of pure laziness.  It costs them nothing to go find out, only a small amount of time.

Only the strong don’t wait…

Time Doesn't Wait...

Time Doesn't Wait...

Inherently, we know that if we found out what it took to do what we want to do, then we may actually have to go do it.  98 percent of the world is mentally lazy.  That is why only 2% of the entire world have achieved 90% of all the income.

Not so long ago, I too was a part of this “non-elite” majority.  Even as a self-employed entrepreneur, I was still too lazy to take it to the next level.  I knew many years ago that being self-employed was a level that I needed to rise above.  I no longer “need” to rise above that level.  I “must” rise above that level.  I see opportunity to rise above that level.  Especially, with the state that the economy is in now!

So, no more waiting!  I’m not just talking about me.  No more waiting for you.  It is time for you to get up and live the life that you desire to live!  It is time for you to start that business.  Quit that JOB that has oppressed you for so long.  Start working on that hobby that you have loved from youth.

Plan and go…

Now, I don’t recommend you go out like some hedonistic kamikazeYou must have a plan. Make sure your plan is sound and even if you have experience or training in the area, be sure to get yourself a mastermind of professionals that you can turn to for advice and help when going through the transitions in your business or hobby.   You need this soundness especially when quitting your job to make it happen. (Remember the college/tech students we talked about earlier.)

So, this goes for me too.  Even though I am self-employed, I must get out of this race and into Business Ownership.  That is my goal.  I must plan to go from the throngs of self-employment to the real jungle of Business Ownership, which is where I belong.

What is your goal?  What do you want to achieve?

Thanks for the post, you rock Gerlain! life is to short to sit on our hands waiting for things to change without taking action.

I think this post was just what in needed because i have not taken the time to set my goal or how many people i would like to reach and help with my natural weight loss coaching program. It would be great to have so many people that I have to hire a VA to take care of all of the costumes service... how about I aim for 400 people, seems like a lot... and kinda scares me but maybe i need a scare... boo! Ah! lol the question is by when... 400 by july 1st (sounds like i have some short term goals to map out)

I also want to take my course and turn it into a DVD set so that if people want all of the materiel instead of the weekly video course they can get it all at one time and at a discount. So I would like to have that created by April 1, (April fools day) :P

Thanks for getting my thinking wheels turning about this. I'm about to start my season 2 of the 100 day challenge on jan 1st so this is a good start!
  • Awsome! glad I have you thinking Ms. Body Love. That is what growth is all about. We are growing let's keep going!
  • My short term goal - get PR5 on my blog. :)
  • Awesome goal. I would love to get that rating as well. I am working on it! :)
  • Gerlaine,

    Truly inspirational!

You know my goal - to provide the most sought after Income blogging course around.

I recently purchased a 'white board' and I can't describe how much difference is has made to the amount of work I get done each day.

All I do is write on the board the things I'm going to finish today...then do them. Real simple stuff, I know but it works.

    Andrew
  • Thanx for the compliment. I believe that your course will be the most sought after. I'll have to get myself one of those white boards too. I keep lists everyday and try to knock them out, but if I had the lists posted that would definitely be better.
  • Hi Gerlaine,

Thanks for the link and glad you were inspired.

    Great post.
